Situated in the heart of the beautiful Scottish border countryside,
on the edge of the market town of Duns, this enchanting, historic 14th century
castle has been opened up to guests as an exclusive and very personal venue
by its owners, the Hay family. Duns Castle is a rare and exceptional 14th
century tower house, still intact but with extensive additions over the centuries
to provide a fine Gothic structure that is at once imposing and beguiling.
Since 1696, it has been lived in by the Hay family, and still remains, after
3 centuries, their private home.
Guests are made to feel utterly at home, with quiet unobtrusive
service and the personal attention of the current generation of the family.
There is a tremendous warmth in the rich interior with comfort and authenticity
being the key words. The food is simple, genuine and imaginative Scottish
cuisine, and the staff willing and enthusiastic.
The castle is ideal as a secluded exclusive venue for anything
from one couple to 65 people, or larger numbers if a marquee is erected. The
wonderful Drawing room is a stunning setting for a civil or religious ceremony
and the richly panelled and carved main dining room is perfect for a reception.
There are 12 bedrooms in the castle available for guests, many of which have
four poster beds.
